St. Stupid's Day Parade in S.F. For April Fools' DayMar 30th 2011 6:00PM / by Harmon Leon
Friday is April Fools' Day. In San Francisco, that means one thing: The 33rd Annual St. Stupid's Day Parade.
Yes, we crazy citizens of San Francisco love putting on goofy costumes and marching through the streets -- and what better occasion than the stupidest day of the year, when pranks run a-plenty and general foolishness flies through the air. Here's a little history on the St. Stupid's Day Parade:
It was founded in the late '70s by Ed Holmes, otherwise know as Bishop Joey of the First Church of the Last Laugh. The parade commences on the foot of Market Street and follows a route through the Financial District; it will make "the ritual stops at the Stations of Stupid," like the Federal Reserve Bank HQ for the ritual of the Dead Lottery Ticket, the Sock Exchange at the Pacific Stock Exchange, the Leap of Faith at the Plaza of the Holy Lug Nuts, the Penny Toss at the Bankers Heart and the Free Lunch.
St. Stupid's Day is considered a holy holiday amongst the
Church of the Last Laugh -- arguably the world's oldest religion in the world's oldest church.
